Coenzyme Q10 blocks migraines

Debilitating migraine headaches were cut in half for 48% of sufferers who took three daily 100-mg doses of supplemental coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) during a 3-month study done in Switzerland. Only 14% of those taking a placebo reached that level of relief.

One current migraine theory proposes that the pounding starts when there's a shortage of power reserves created by energy generators called mitochondria inside nerve cells. CoQ10 is an antioxidant known to be one of the "fuels" mitochondria need to generate cell energy; supplementing may replenish a shortfall and short-circuit headaches, the researchers say.
