The huge, important-sounding complications of the mega buck business of depression can hide from us the plain, small truths of our lives. The plain, small truth about depression is that it has no power if we ignore it and insist upon thinking about something else.

In such a climate where the bizarre has at times prevailing wisdom, and drug manufacturers are fund most university research, there are huge consequences for both medicine and science. When Yale University announces that a study financed by shampoo maker Procter & Gamble proved that a "bad hair day" is deleterious to self-esteem, clearly science has lost her virtue to commerce.
