Chronic, low-grade inflammation is like a fever in the blood that precedes type 2 diabetes. A Harvard study of 124,700 women found a 2 1/2 to 3 times higher risk of developing diabetes in those who ate the most inflammation-promoting foods, compared with those whose diets were rich in foods that reduce inflammation.
