Abstract:The article provides information on cataract surgery. Before surgery, the clinician will use ultrasound to evaluate the shape of a patient's eye and calculate the strength of the replacement lens. Several types of intraocular lens are available including monofocal lenses, toric lenses and accommodative lenses. After about 30 percent of cataract operations, the lens capsule supporting the implant eventually becomes cloudy, which is sometimes called an after-cataract or secondary cataract. INSET: Can cataract be prevented?.
