Abstract:The article comments on a study addressing the use of melatonin or placebo in irritable bowel syndrome and sleep disturbances. The author cited that melatonin significantly decreased the mean abdominal pain. It has demonstrated the supplementation of melatonin with three milligram of melatonin at bedtime for two weeks can reduce abdominal pain and rectal pain sensitivity in people with irritable bowel syndrome.
