Ulcer check

If you've been diagnosed with a peptic ulcer, make sure your doctor gives you a test for H. pylori, the stomach bacterium that causes the condition in more than 90% of the cases. A survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta found that only 27% of Americans are aware that most peptic ulcer disease is caused by an infection with this bacteria. A separate survey found that only 50% of patients with first-time ulcer symptoms were being tested for H. pylori by their doctors. A simple breath test can usually ID this culprit.
