Research published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology suggests that lower insulin levels in the body may reduce acne. So when, it comes to your diet, eating foods low on the glycemic index — foods that raise blood sugar and insulin more slowly and are higher in nutrients than those high on the index — may contribute to a clearer complexion. The study assigned men ages 15 to 25 to either a high glycemic load (typical Western) diet, or a lower glycemic diet that emphasized whole grains and fruits, fish, poultry, and lean meat. After 12 weeks, those following the latter diet not only had fewer acne lesions, they also lest weight.
